LG CNS to Export Smart City Solutions to Indonesia

LG CNS will provide consulting for a smart city design project for East Kalimantan, Borneo Island, the new capital of Indonesia.

The Indonesian government has recently selected LG CNS as a design consulting firm for the construction of a smart city in East Kalimantan. The company will be in charge of drawing up a basic plan for the introduction of public transportation systems and electric vehicles. The scale of Indonesia's smart city project is estimated at 40 to 50 trillion won.

The Indonesian government believes that Korea has all the core competencies required for the construction of a smart city. The Korean government is building pilot smart cities in Sejong and Busan by investing 8.6 trillion won. The completion year is 2025 for Sejong and 2027 for Busan. In both cases, LG CNS is leading consortiums for the two regions.

Industry insiders forecast that a consortium of Korean companies, including LG CNS and Hyundai E&C, is highly likely to win orders related to the smart city in Indonesia. Indonesian President Joko Widodo visited Korea on July 28 and discussed strengthening cooperation related to the smart city at a meeting with Hyundai Motor Group chairman Chung Eui-sun.

The global smart city market is expected to grow from US$457 billion (about 596 trillion won) in 2021 to US$873.7 billion (about 1139 trillion won) in 2026, according to Market & Market, a market research firm.
