Korea’s 4IR technology products are introduced to the public

Security and safety products using the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technology were introduced to the public.

The fourth Korea Innovative Safety & Security Expo 2018, which is co-hosted by the Ministry of Interior and Safety, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Gyeonggi-do Provincial Government, was opened to the public at the KINTEX Convention Center in Goyang City, Gyeonggi-do Province from Nov. 14 to 16.

More than 400 governmental organizations and private corporations, including the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Disaster Management Research Institute, participated in the exhibition to show various products of 4IR technology, such as big data, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and intelligent robots.

Minister of Interior and Safety, Kim Boo kyum, said in the opening speech, “Korea Innovative Safety & Security Expo is Korea’s largest exhibition of the security and safety industry. Up to now, the exhibition has contributed to creating jobs and expanding security awareness. The government is making continuous efforts to foster safety technology and industry, so that people can live safely without worrying about disasters and accidents.”

In particular, the exhibition booth on innovative growth, which displayed special vehicles for disaster investigation, insect screens using IoT technology and smart helmets for firefighters, received a lot of attention.

The FUTUREROBOT Corporation, which participates in the Robocop distribution project of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, introduced its robot railway police, ‘NEO.’ The Robot Designer, Kim Youngkee, explained, “The police robots are being deployed at Seoul and Dongdae-gu Station. They will be undertaking autonomous patrols and providing safety services.”

Drones used for multiple purposes, such as in the military and agriculture, were also exhibited. Cheonpung Unmanned Aircraft Corporation, which develops agricultural drones, said, “Today’s agricultural drones can make plans, analyze data and estimate expenses. Our goal is to make a complete drone platform that can cover a wide range of businesses, including agriculture.”

Natural disaster experience using VR technology and other interesting experiences were also available at the fair.
