LG Uplus, a mobile carrier in South Korea, has worked with Hucom Wireless, a domestic telecom equipment company, to unveil a small and lightweight 5G USB dongle that can be used in various industrial sites such as smart factories and smart ports.
The new product equipped with a small but efficient fan is smaller than any wireless router products released so far.
A dongle is a small piece of computer hardware that connects to a port on another device to provide it with additional functionality or enable a pass-through to such a device that adds functionality. LG Uplus (LGU+) said that the 5G USB dongle is 8.6 cm wide, 4.8 cm long, and 2.2 cm high. Power cables and LAN cables can be integrated into USB-C type cables for easy use.
The USB dongle can be installed in small industrial robots, automated guided vehicles, and drones to utilize 5G services, the mobile carrier said, adding that the new dongle can also be mounted on laptops, tablet PCs, and small beam projectors. "Through cooperation with Hucom Wireless, we are able to take the lead in expanding the 5G B2B ecosystem," Jeon Young-seo in charge of corporate service development, said in a statement on October 4.
