[MSIT Press releases] Korea Materials Data Station (K-MDS)

The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT, Minister: Lee Jongho) announced that it has opened up Korea Materials Data Station (K-MDS), a platform to share and utilize data of materials research that have been domestically generated. (https://kmds.re.kr)

The K-MDS service aims to collect and share materials research data that have been scattered among different ministries, businesses, and research institutes, and use them to discover AI-based new materials and shorten the materials development period. With this service, researchers will be allowed to register and manage materials research data online with ease, while enjoying the data analysis system.

To date, about 73,000 documents have been registered in the K-MDS platform and, by 2027, about 360,000 documents will be provided as materials data. The three major study areas for such data are: Energy/Environment, Smart/Information Technology, and Structure/Safety.

Each piece of data will be granted with a unique Digital Object Identifier(DOI) and all such data will be linked to the national R&D projects of National Science & Technology Information Service(NTIS), so as to increase data usability.
