MSIT to take a step closer to a space superpower with the next-generation space launch vehicle

The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) announced that it has launched a preliminary feasibility study for the next-generation space launch vehicle, a successor to the Nuri rocket, with the plan to invest 1.93 trillion won (USD $1.53 billion) for nine years from 2023 to 2031.

This project will be conducted by Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) jointly with a private enterprise from the initial phase to the final launch, which helps South Korea to acquire independent ability to develop a powerful launch vehicle.

MSIT is targeting to send a lunar landing module to the moon using the next-generation space launch vehicle to verify the vehicle’s capacity and the following first official mission, sending the actual lunar lander, is expected in 2031.

ICT exports marked record high in April

The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT, Minister: Lee Jongho) announced that South Korea’s exports of information and communication technology(ICT) products for April marked record high last month. The export reached US $19.94 billion, a 16.9% increase year on year, showing a steady double-digit growth rate for 13 months.

Despite the uncertainties caused by the Russia-Ukraine crisis and lockdown in China, the ICT industry showed surplus gains of US $7.81 billion, up by US $1.55 billion year on year.

Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) also posted a steady double-digit increase for 18 consecutive months to reach US $ 4.89 billion in semiconductors, computers, and peripheral devices.
