Korea's home-grown 5G telecommunications technology, which has already been demonstrated at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, is on display once again at the Asian Games 2018 Jakarta-Palembang.
The "Korea 5G Experience Center" in Jakarta, hosted by the Korean government and the Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (KOMINFO), in cooperation with KT Corporation and the Indonesian telecommunications company Telkomsel, provides realistic media services that enable users to watch sporting events from different locations, scenes and angles. The center also provides six tech programs, including VR games and 3-D experiences without 3-D glasses, that have been open to the public since Aug. 18.
As for the Asian Games golf events starting Aug. 23, users have been able to use the "Point View" service that tracks the real-time position of a player and shows the game from different viewing angles. "Sync View" shows the game from a first-person view in real-time, adding further realism.
Virtual experiences of Indonesia’s national sport, badminton, has attracted a lot of attention from visitors to the center. "Free View" allows users to experience the highlights of the games from various viewing angles in 3-D. Users can feel the movements of the players and the speed of the shuttlecock, which can reach up to 300 kph.
