The KERC hosts ‘KERC Academy 2023’ with NRF


On Monday 4th of September, the KERC kicked off ‘KERC Academy 2023’ with the National Research Foundation of Korea(NRF).


15 selected staffs from the NRF led by Mr. JEON Ho-Seok(head of office, International Cooperation Planning) visited the KERC to attend its two days education & training programme for global talents.

During the opening session, Mr. CHO Woohyun(Director General, Korea-EU Research Centre) and Mr. JUNG Jaewuk(S&T counsellor, Korean Embassy in Brussels) warmly welcomed attendees and speakers while emphasizing the growing importance of international cooperation in research.

During two days, attendees had the opportunity to learn about national and European research programmes (with particular emphasis on Horizon Europe), its international cooperation strategies, evaluation processes, funding mechanisms and its management structures and etc.

After each sessions, participants held a productive discussion with the session speakers from European Commission’s DG Research & Innovation(DG RTD), Research Council of Norway(RCN),  Flanders Research Foundation(FWO), UK Research Office Brussels(UKRO), Taiwan NSTC, KOTRA and so on.

Participants also visited University of Leuven(KUL) and University of Gent(UGENT), the most competitive universities in Belgium.

In a meeting among the KERC, NRF and UGENT, they exchanged their views and ideas on current and future collaboration between Korean side and UGENT. Both parties agreed to seek for more opportunities to increase their cooperation especially through Horizon Europe.
