KERC briefs about Horizon Europe to Korean scientists in Europe


On Thursday, 11 July, The KERC organized a Horizon Europe webinar for the Korean Scientists & Engineers Associations in Europe.


In the first session, Jaewuk JUNG, Science Counsellor at the Korean embassy to the EU presented Korean governments latest international cooperation policy. In the main session, Woohyun CHO, Director General at Korea-EU Research Centre explained what is Horizon Europe and how to participate. Overall, the focus was on making it known that Korea-based researchers can participate in Horizon Europe pillar 2 starting from 2025 through Korea’s association to the programme. Those Korean scientists, who are actively conducting their research in Europe, are expected to play an important role as a crucial catalysis and a facilitator for Korea-Europe cooperation.

There are 9 Korean Scientists and Engineers Association in Europe which are in the UK (KOSEAUK), France (ASCoF), Austria (KOSEAA), Germany (VeKNI), Finland (KOSES), Scandinavia (KSSEA), the Netherland (KOSEANL), Switzerland (KSEAS) and Belgium (KOSEAbe). Around thousand researchers from these nine associations gathers once in a year through Europe-Korea Conference on Science and Technology (EKC). EKC 2024, the 16th EKC, will be held in United Kingdom (Birmingham/Coventry) from 30 July to 2 August.

Together with its partners, The Korea-EU Research Centre (KERC) will continue to promote Horizon Europe through various sessions in EKC 2024.
