On Thursday 13 July, the Korea-EU Research Centre(KERC) organized an online workshop on MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2023 in collaboration with the National Research Foundation of Korea(NRF), EURAXESS KOREA, DG Education & Culture(DG EAC, European Commission), and MSCAdvocacy.
More than 120 Korean researchers from Korea and European countries applied for the workshop. Most of them were PhD candidate or in their early postdoctoral career.
In the opening session, Dr. CHO Woohyun(director general, KERC) and Mr. RYU Youngdae(director general, Directorate international affair, NRF) welcomed its audience and showed their gratitude to the speakers. They both emphasized the importance of Korea-EU research cooperation and global talents in this global era.
In the first information session, Dr. Anouk Lafortune(policy officer, MSCA unit, DG EAC) presented overall information on MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships. In the following session, Dr. Tomasz Wierzbowski(representative, EURAXESS Korea) covered the application process for the MSCA PF.
Also, during the workshop, Dr. George Bonas(Managing Director, CeRISS) introduced MSCAdvocacy project and its effort and strategy to promote MSCA to South Korea.
In the final session, a Korean MSCA fellow Dr. KIM Teun-Teun(University of Ulsan) shared his own vivid experiences and useful tips.
According to the live survey which was launched during the workshop, the majority of the attendees (87%) said that they find Europe as an attractive destination for research career development, meanwhile only 21% of them knew about MSCA Postdoctoral fellowships before the workshop.
After the workshop, most of the attendees showed interest in applying for the MSCA Postdoctoral fellowships. 33% of respondents said that they want to apply for the MSCA PF 2023 call. 47% said they want to apply it next year (2024).
This workshop was the first Korean-targeted open workshop on Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) by its relevant partner organizations whose aim is to promote Korean participation in MSCA.
