MSIT to counter the cyber attacks
The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT, Minister: Lim Hyesook) shared the recent cyber attack cases and domestic companies’ responses, so as to be better prepared for future cyber attacks that are getting more complex and systematic.
On March 21, MSIT also upgraded the cyber crisis alert to a higher level while conducting a more thorough monitoring on cyber attacks and establishing the 24/7 emergency response system.
According to the case analysis results, there have been three levels of cyber attacks. First is to steal the email account of the user from the target company. The second level is to get into the company’s internal system to access the central server or the program management server, distributing malware programs. The third level is to leak personal information of employees or trade secrets.
To prevent such incidents, a two-factor authentication should be put in place while enhancing monitoring and computer inspection practices. Furthermore, companies should sign up for ‘C-TAS 2.0’ to be shared with information about cyber attacks in real time and participate in the cyber attack response drills that are held twice a year.
MSIT gearing up to support standardization activities
MSIT is geared up to support the experts’ activities regarding international standardization and to operate forums for standard-setting by the private sector.
A total of 298 experts have been selected to receive the support, including 105 professionals in the fields of artificial intelligence, telecommunications, cyber security, quantum cryptography.
In addition, MSIT will support the operation of 39 standardization forums, 6 of which will be newly added, including ‘6G telecommunications forum,’ ‘Open RAN forum,’ and ‘Medical AI forum.’
Korea-Viet Nam partnership to nurture Vietnamese software developers
MSIT announced on April 1 that it launched the“Korea-Viet Nam Council on Software Talent Nurturing” to produce more software developers among Vietnamese students studying in Korea.
A Korea-Viet Nam initiative to nurture software developers has been implemented at Korea IT Schools located across Viet Nam. This initiative was designed to support domestic software companies to make inroads into the Vietnamese market, nurturing about 50 software developers annually in Viet Nam and recruiting them as intern at Korean companies.
The new partnership program, “Korea-Viet Name Council on Software Talent Nurturing,” will focus on educating Vietnamese students residing in Korea to become a software developer, emulating Korea IT School’s curriculum.
MSIT to raise fund for Technology Transfer(TT) between University/Research Institutions and Industry
MSIT announced that the first round of review on candidate companies to be invested with the first Technology Transfer(TT) fund went successfully. This TT fund, first of which is worth of 20 billion won, is designed to support the commercialization of technologies transferred from universities or research institutions, at the initial stage.
MSIT is aiming to raise over 100 billion won in total throughout the four times of fund raises from 2021 to 2024. This year, MSIT is going to raise more than 40 billion won for the second TT fund, 20 billion won from each of public and private sectors. From the second fund on, a newly designed incentive system will be applied, where additional financial incentives will be granted to the investment advisors if their invested companies attract good amount of investment in the follow-up.
