Minister Lee Jong-Ho to attend the 2022 ITU Plenipotentiary Conference


The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT, Minister: Lee Jong-Ho) attended the 2022 Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-22) of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), held at Bucharest, Romania from September 25.


ITU is the ICT specialized agency under the United Nations and the Plenipotentiary Conference (PP) is the highest policy making body of ITU that gathers every four years.

Minister Lee Jong-Ho was invited to the Ministerial Roundtable to support the Bucharest Declaration drafted under the theme of “Building a Better Digital Future for All” and introduced digital inclusive policies and contributions Korea government is providing to narrow the digital divide.

During the PP-22, the ITU leadership election and the member states election will be held. Korea is running for the second consecutive position of Deputy Secretary-General and as the ninth consecutive position as the Council Member State.

Before and after the PP-22, Minister Lee had bilateral meetings with Slovenia, Romania, Australia, Malaysia, and Egypt, and meet with other nations’ major delegations to campaign for the ITU election and the Busan World Expo. On the following day, the Minister will attend the Formal Meeting of Heads of Delegation and the Opening Ceremony.

Minister Lee said that since Korea is highly recognized as ICT leading nation and the demand for its contributions is rising, Korea will cooperate with the international society in narrowing the digital divide and creating the digital innovation opportunities amid the waves of post-Covid digital transformation.
